Idris Elba looks like he's going to add yet another comic book movie to his CV, if reports are anything to go by.

The Hollywood Reporter states (and comic writer David Petersen appears to confirm) that the Thor: Ragnarok actor is in final talks to star in Mouse Guard, which is an adaptation of the award-winning series that's been going since 2006.

If he does sign on then he'll be playing the wise mentor character of Celanawe, a former member of the Guard and legendary hero who vanishes from the public eye until the plot demands it. As the movie's title suggests, the character is a mouse.

In fact, all the characters are mice. The series is a medieval story set in a parallel world where there are no human people, just mice people. The titular Mouse Guard protect the civilians from various perils, fighting for honour and justice (and cheese).

Celanawe has lived outside of mouse dwellings and culture for over 30 years, developing a gruff and untrusting nature towards other mice.

The film has also signed up Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis and Game of Thrones' Thomas Brodie-Sangster. The latter will play the young recruit Lieam, while Serkis will play the villain. Yes, we are just as shocked as you are.

The actors will be providing motion capture and working with LotR's visual effects wizards WETA.

The Maze Runner's Wes Ball is directing, while War for the Planet of the Apes' Matt Reeves is producing and After Earth's Gary Whitta is writing the script. Production is expected to start in May.
