Luxury spa and private cinema plan emerges for historic 17th century inn
Multi-million pound plans to redevelop a historic inn into a hotel with private cinema have been unveiled. The proposals would also include a hot tub, steam room and sauna for guests.
The proposals, for the 17th century The George Inn, were unveiled this week and have been submitted to Rutland County Council. If approved, the redevelopment of the Oakham site would cost £2 million.
The George Inn, which is a Grade II listed building, would become a hotel. There are also proposals to convert a former coach house and install new features in the grounds of the inn too.

Owner Ryck Turner, who bought the building and its adjacent properties for £3 million in 2022, said: "We have taken a lot of time and care over these designs and submitting this planning application represents a significant step forward in our plans to create something special here in the heart of Oakham. The idea is to create the perfect country retreat where our customers can come to us, park their car, drop their bags and not have to leave the premises to enjoy a complete relaxing break."
Mr Turner's plans require listed building consent due to the property's Grade II status. He is also planning to invest an additional £2 million in the development should it be approved, with proposals to also include the installation of pergolas within the garden.
Initial work has already been completed while keeping the Market Place venue open for trading. This includes extensive redecoration and new furnishings throughout the property. The council will make a decision on the full plans at a later date.
