Lydia Bright opened up about her decision to quit The Only Way Is Essex on ITV's Lorraine today (June 27).

The reality star announced that she was leaving the Essex-based series following a seven-year stint on the show at around the same time her ex-boyfriend James Argent revealed he was returning.

Has she decided to leave because of Arg or is the timing pure coincidental?

She revealed: "Honestly, it has nothing to do with James. I didn't even realise he was returning.

"When all that press came out, I called him and said, 'Look I just want you to know I haven't stropped off the show because you're returning'. The truth is I would have filmed alongside him.

"But maybe it was a sign that I made the right decision because perhaps it would have been a little bit uncomfortable – but that was no way in my decision-making at all.

"I'm so happy James is returning to the show because for him, that was his passion. And I think he needs to be back on TOWIE. He belongs on TOWIE a lot more than I do. He loves it."

Lydia and Arg have been dating on and off for almost a decade.

Despite breaking up and then getting back together again countless times over the years, she insisted to presenter Lorraine Kelly that they would never rekindle their relationship again now.

The reality star added: "We will always be pals. We went through so much together. I would hate to look back on it and have bitter memories. I want to just remember the good times.

"But it's just not meant to be. I won't come back on this show again and say we're back together."

Lydia, who has quit TOWIE and returned before, admitted she wouldn't rule out coming back a second time, as she went on to discuss the real reason for her exit.

She continued: "Never say never but I need to take some time out right now. I feel like my time has come to a natural end with TOWIE.

"TOWIE is about relationships but there are so many other things I'm passionate about that haven't been brought to life, like my adventures, my travelling, everything I've learnt and so on."

One of the new projects Lydia has been working on following her departure from the ITVBe reality show is her new book, Live, Laugh, Love, Always, Lydia, which is out now.

"My new book for me is about opening other doors," she added. "It's an uplifting book and I hope everyone enjoys it."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
