The Marks and Spencer Food Hall on the outskirts of Cheltenham will shut within days. The closure of the Kingsditch Retail Park store in the summer was announced back in February and now signs at the site, off Tewkesbury Road, have given the final date of business as Saturday, June 8.

A new Food Hall will open across the road at The Centrum Retail Park between Dunhelm and The Range in spring 2025. Until then, the nearest M&S food outlet is at the main town centre store.

The impending closure comes two months after the closure of the M&S Home store next door. This shut for good on Saturday, March 30.

The approaching closure of the Food Hall has been greeted with dismay and disappointment by customers on social media. One person said: “They are walking away from a lot of trade, will not be going to town to start my shopping there instead.”

Another said: “Would like to thank all the staff for all help and been very loyal to the customers. It’s a shame it’s closing.”

In a statement back in February, an M&S spokesperson said: “With the lease arrangements on our stores in the Kingsditch retail park ending in the coming months, we have been looking for a new local location with the right space to offer shoppers the very best of M&S Food. We had hoped to continue trading at our current Kingsditch Foodhall store until the new store was ready, but it has unfortunately not been possible to reach an agreement with our landlord to do this."

Speaking of the new Food Hall, earlier in the year, Ali Ivery, Regional Manager for M&S said: “We’re excited to announce a multi-million pound investment in a brand-new, bigger, better M&S Foodhall at the Centrum retail park in Cheltenham, which will offer local customers a much wider range of M&S Food products. The new 15,000 sqft store will be 50% bigger than our current offer with a fresh market-style Foodhall and a range of new features including displays of great quality, trusted value produce from M&S Select Farms and a show-stopping new M&S Bakery offering fresh daily-baked bread and pastries."
