Marks & Spencer has launched an at-home gardening series on social media with CBBC presenter Lee Connelly, aka 'The Skinny Jean Gardener', the green-fingered gardening expert on Blue Peter.

Promising to keep the whole family entertained, the series is set to help everyone get gardening, and provide some fun and activity during this period of lockdown.

The series launched last Thursday (2 April) with the first episode of Lee's Garden Get Together focusing on how to grow your own plants fruit and veg, no matter how big or small you, or your garden, happen to be.

If you don't have a garden at all, don't worry, you won't be left out – there's even a whole masterclass for that coming in later episodes, as well as ones on turning unwanted household objects into plant palaces, repotting and growing from seeds, and classes focusing on nature and native wildlife.

Speaking about the project, Lee said: “Now, more than ever, Brits are looking for fun things to do at home that not only keep themselves and their little ones entertained, but can also help them learn a new skill that they can continue to build on in the future. Gardening is perfect for this – and the best thing about it is that it doesn’t matter whether you have a huge garden or just a windowsill – it’s so easy to get started.”

An interactive experience, there will be plenty of opportunity for beginner gardeners to ask Lee questions via Marks & Spencer's Instagram channel, while special challenges could see you win a signed copy of his new book, How to Get Kids Gardening.

Lee will also host a ‘Super Saturday’ quiz for all the family, where everyone can test their gardening, plant and wildlife knowledge with questions like, "Can carrots really help you see in the dark?" and, "How do you keep hedgehogs happy in the garden?" So, your gang can get competitive while learning even more to compliment their new skills.

Gardening and growing plants is thought to be both educational and therapeutic for children and adults alike, and now really is the perfect time to get started.

WATCH The new gardening series will be hosted on the M&S Instagram and IGTV channel.
