M Night Shyamalan wants to direct Stranger Things
Before Stranger Things, series creators the Duffer brothers made their TV debut on M Night Shyamalan's series Wayward Pines... now he wants them to repay the favour.
Shyamalan told Digital Spy that he'd love to direct an episode of the '80s-tastic Netflix series, returning for season two later this year.
"My boys who do Stranger Things, they did Wayward Pines for me," he said. "They were round my house and I was like, 'Well, you can hire me back guys!'"
The Split filmmaker revealed that he already has "a bunch of TV shows [he's] working on" - including the previously-announced reboot of cult '90s series Tales from the Crypt.
"I really want to do that and hopefully I still will, but it's hugely complicated," he explained. "It's particularly difficult because of the rights issues. There are so many estates involved and people involved from the original....
"I love the comics [which inspired the original series] - that show was a big deal to me... it was taboo, it was like porn! In my immigrant house, I had to go to my friend's house to watch Tales from the Crypt, so it represented a huge thing for me."
Despite his apparent passion for the paranormal, Shyamalan insisted that the he's "a closet drama director" at heart.
"Supernatural thrillers... that's what I'm known for. [But] I'm a closet drama director. I don't like anybody to know! When people come to the multiplex and they're screaming and laughing... that's not why I made the movie. I made the movie for the drama."
M Night Shyamalan's new movie Split is out in cinemas on Friday, January 20.
