M&S has unveiled plans to launch 13 new stores, including food halls, across the UK within the next year.

The retailer announced in its latest full-year results report that it will be opening four new full-line stores and nine food halls. The first of these is set to open at the Galleries in Washington, City of Sunderland, on May 30.

This upcoming 43,000 sq ft store will take over the current food hall at the retail park, offering a range of food and clothing items. It will feature a bakery, florist, and wine shop, alongside a click-and-collect service for online orders.

In line with M&S's commitment to sustainability, the store will operate entirely on electric energy, aligning with the company's goal to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

Following this, M&S is preparing to open a new food hall in Guildford at Ladymead Retail Park on June 12. Customers can expect to find an extensive food hall, bakery, and a card and wrap shop, as well as a click-and-collect point for M&S purchases and travel money services, reports the Mirror.

Further expansion plans were confirmed today by M&S, including new food halls opening in Sidcup, London, on June 19 and in Friern Barnet, London, in August. Additionally, a new full line store is scheduled to open at Gallagher Retail Park in Dundee by the end of summer, with another food hall planned for Largs in 2025.

M&S has yet to confirm the locations and opening dates for the additional new stores. Alongside the 13 new outlets, M&S has announced plans for 25 store revamps in the next financial year, with a dozen set to take place in London.

The capital will see renovations at Brixton Road, Chancery Lane, Blackheath, Teddington, and Islington in the upcoming months.

These openings and refurbishments are part of M&S's ongoing store rotation strategy, aiming to operate 180 full-line stores and 420 food halls across the UK. In its recent financial results, M&S reported being in its "strongest financial health since 1997", although CEO Stuart Machin acknowledged that "there remains much work to do".
