S&P 500 Falls 27 Points: Boeing Order Worries, Gold Stock Selloff, Oxy Leads Oil Stocks Down

The S&P 500 Index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) fell 26.7 points, or 0.8%, on Aug. 11. The worst-performing S&P 500 component stocks on the day included oil stocks Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY), down 8%, and Apache Corp (NASDAQ: APA) and Cabot Oil & Gas (NYSE: COG), both down 4%. Gold miner Newmont Corp (NYSE: NEM) shares fell 7.4% on a day that saw nearly every gold stock fall sharply on a brutal day for gold prices.
