The deadline for applications to the government's EU Settlement Scheme will not be extended beyond the end of June, a minister has warned, as tens of thousands face having their benefits cut. Home Office minister Kevin Foster said postponing the cut-off point would create "uncertainty", adding that all those who make an application before June 30 "will have their rights protected". The settled status scheme gives longstanding European residents who successfully apply indefinite leave to stay and work in the UK after Brexit.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the final easing of lockdown measures on July 19, with a four-week delay announced on Monday buying more time for people to receive vaccinations.
