4 Reasons Tencent Isn’t Worrying About Trump’s WeChat Ban

On Aug. 6, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to ban the use of Tencent's (OTC: TCEHY) WeChat, China's top messaging app, in the United States for national security reasons. The order, which takes effect after 45 days, claims WeChat "automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users," which could "allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans' personal and proprietary information." It also calls WeChat a tool for "keeping tabs on Chinese citizens who may be enjoying the benefits of a free society for the first time in their lives" in the United States and other countries.
