A series of back-to-back closures on the M20 will impact journeys around Kent this week. National Highways has confirmed resurfacing works will be taking place on the east-bound carriageway between Junctions 9 and 10 near Ashford.

For this to be completed, multiple overnight closures will commence from tonight (June 10). Taking place across three consecutive nights, this stretch of the motorway will shut between 10pm and 6am while the resurfacing is completed.

During this time, traffic will be diverted via the A20, A28 Simone Weir Avenue, A28 Canterbury Road, A2070 and A20 to re-join the M20 at Junction 10a. After these overnight closures, the M20 Junction 9 east-bound entry slip road will close for two nights from Thursday (June 13).

This closure will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, and lanes one and two of the M20 east-bound will also shut during this time. These are not the only works that will impact travel near the M20 this week.

National Highways crews will also be carrying out repairs and maintenance to the New Hythe Lane bridge that goes over the M20, close to New Hythe, near Aylesford. Works include replacing the expansion joints and waterproofing to the bridge, measures considered “critical to maintaining and improving safety to the structure”.

For these works to be completed safely, weeknight and full weekend closures of the New Hythe Lane bridge will be required with some lane closures managed under traffic lights, between the hours of 8pm to 6am. See the planned timeline below.
