M25 closed: Woman found dead on motorway after suspected hit and run

The body of a woman has been discovered on the M25 after a suspected hit and run incident, police say.

A section of the motorway has been closed clockwise between junctions eight and 10, near Leatherhead in Surrey, following the incident.

It said the victim, a 36-year-old woman, died at the scene. Officers believe she had been walking along the road in the lead-up to her death.

Her family have been informed.

Sergeant Andy Audsley, of Surrey Police, said: “We are trying to establish how the woman, who was a pedestrian, came to be injured in the carriageway.

“We believe that she may have been involved at some stage in a collision with a vehicle that did not stop at the scene.

“We are asking anyone who saw the woman who was wearing a maroon coat and trousers to call us immediately on 101.”

The road remains closed as police continue to carry out investigations. A series of diversions are now in place.
