M25 crane accident: Motorway closed after crane overturns across both carriageways in Essex

The M25 has been shut after a crane overturned and fall across both sides of the motorway .

The incident happened at Junction 27 with the M11 in Essex on Friday evening.

The serious collision has caused huge tailbacks in both directions including more than 10 miles on the clockwise carriageway.

The Essex Roads Policing Unit are on the scene and asked for patience while officers deal with the incident.

In a Tweet a spokesman said: "Still on Scene on the M25 with Highways England and Essex Fire Services.

"Trapped traffic on clockwise released around 40 minutes afo, still working to turn around those on anti, please be patient."

Essex Police confirmed no-one has been seriously injured but added the road is likely to be closed for “some considerable time.”

Highways England has also warned motorists to avoid the area while the emergency services work to clear the scene.
