A driver was left seriously injured in a five vehicle smash which closed part of M40. West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has confirmed that medics tended to two patients at the scene on the M40 in Bishops Tachbrook this morning (November 18).

One of them, who was driving a car, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. He was treated on the roadside before being taken to the University Hospital Coventry for further care.

Another patient, a man, was assessed at the scene. He did not need hospital treatment.

A WMAS spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 8am to a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles on the M40 in Bishops Tachbrook, Leamington Spa. Two ambulances attended the scene. Upon arrival we found two patients.

"The first, who was the driver of one of the cars, had sustained serious injuries which were not life threatening. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to University Hospital Coventry for further treatment.

"The second was assessed and was uninjured. He received self care advice before being discharged at the scene. No further patients required treatment."

Police closed off two lanes of the busy motorway while medics tended to the two men. There were five vehicles involved in the collision.

Due to the lane closures, traffic was held for more than 45 minutes and this caused delays into the mid morning. A Warwickshire Police spokesperson confirmed that there was no current appeal for witnesses.
