M5 to M6 northbound link road blocked after crash with traffic backed up to junction 1 West Bromwich

A major motorway link road in the West Midlands was closed this afternoon following a crash. The northbound link road connection the M5 with M6 junction 8 Ray Hall Triangle was blocked after a collision involving a car and a van.

Emergency services were called to the scene, with delays building. National Highways said M5 northbound traffic was only able to access the M6 southbound.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported congestion backed up to junction 1 of the M5 at West Bromwich. The M5 merges with the M6 at the junction 8 Ray Hall Triangle interchange, both northbound and southbound, near Great Barr.

National Highways said on X/Twitter: "The link road from the #M5 northbound to the #M6 J8 northbound is closed due to a collision involving a van and a car. All emergency services are in attendance. #M5 north traffic is now only able to access the #M6 southbound."
