M57 closed after van and trailer go up in flames

The M57 was partially closed this afternoon after a van and trailer caught fire.

Emergency services were called to the M57 Northbound, Junction 2-3, Huyton just after 12.30pm today, June 17.

Three fire engines were on the scene by 12.43pm. Police attended to assist with traffic management. Two northbound lanes were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, and traffic monitoring service Inrix said there was "queueing traffic" following the fire.

An ambulance crew assessed the driver of the vehicle at the scene. According to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, the driver "had no apparent injuries".

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on the M57 Northbound, Junction 2-3, Huyton on the afternoon of Monday 17th June. Crews were alerted at 12.32 and on scene at 12.43, with three fire engines attending.

"On arrival this was one van with a trailer involved in fire. One high pressure hose reel jet was used under general observations.

"Merseyside Police attended to assist with traffic management. North West Ambulance Service also assessed the drive of the vehicle at scene and had no apparent injuries.

"Highways England attended and closed off carriageways one and two of the M57 Northbound.

Crew dampened down the scene before leaving at 13.20."
