A crash is causing chaos for West Midlands commuters this afternoon. A crash on the nearby M5 this afternoon, November 20, is causing significant knock-on delays on the M6.

This is because congestion is stretching back from the M5 southbound to the M6 interchange, a key commuting route. The impact is set to last into this evening's rush hour, with three M6 junctions heavily impacted. Live traffic cameras showed traffic building on the M6, in both directions, at 4.45pm.

Live traffic system monitoring, Inrix, has warned of "long delays" on the M6 and M5. Lanes are closed as emergency work takes place to repair a barrier damaged by the collision.

INRIX said: "Long delays and one lane closed due to emergency barrier repairs and earlier accident on M5 Southbound after J1 A4252 Kenrick Way (West Bromwich / Birmingham).

"Congestion to the M6 Interchange, which is having a knock-on effect onto the Southbound M6 back to J10 (Wolverhampton/Walsall) and back to J7 (Great Barr) on the Northbound side. Lane three (of three) is closed for barrier repairs following a collision earlier."
