M62 latest as man fighting for life after being hit by lorry

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a lorry on the M62 this morning.

West Yorkshire Police say the man was hit by a white DAF HGV as it travelled along the M62 just before 4am this morning. This took place just before junction 29 on the westbound carriageway.

The man has been taken to hospital with his serious injuries. These are believed to be life-threatening.

According to National Highways, the M62 remains closed. They said: "The M62 in West Yorkshire is closed westbound between J30 Oulton and J29 M1 following a Police Led Incident.

"Trapped traffic is in the process of being released. Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene dealing with Traffic Management."

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian on the M62 earlier today.

"It happened just before 4am, when a 47-year-old man was in collision with a white DAF heavy goods vehicle as it travelled along the motorway, just before Junction 29 of the Westbound carriageway.

"He was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are believed to be life threatening."
