Mac Miller fans fuming at absence from Emmys In Memoriam segment: ‘Hollywood is trash’
Mac Miller fans have branded Hollywood “trash” after the late rapper was omitted from the In Memoriam segment at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.
Miller, real name Malcolm McCormick, died on September 7 following a reported overdose at the age of 26.
Monday night’s ceremony paid tribute to stars from the worlds of acting, directing and song-writing who have died in the last year.
American chef Anthony Bourdain, who died on June 8, Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, who died on August 16, and former US senator John McCain, who also died last month, were honoured in the segment, but Miller was absent.
Angry fans attempted to work out why with one tweeting: “Is the reason the #Emmys2018 didn’t put Mac Miller in the remembrance because he was in music or something? #macmiller #Emmys.”
But others were quick to point out that Miller starred in two series of his own MTV2 reality show, Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family, in 2013-2014.
One fan posted: “Mac Miller wasn't worth mentioning? Wow. Hollywood is trash.”
Another tweeted: “Did they really just skip Mac Miller and not give him a tribute? Yes he was a singer and not an actor but they did a tribute to Aretha Franklin and McCain who was just a politician so...what’s up? #Emmys.”
A third wrote: “So the #emmys had everyone in their Memoriam, including singers and politicians, but somehow didn’t include Mac Miller.”
Honestly it’s shady they didn’t put Mac Miller in the In Memoriam part of the Emmys like he had his own show smh

Since the #Emmys forgot to acknowledge Mac Miller or just felt he wasn’t worthy enough, here he is. RIP pic.twitter.com/5H2FbjItEK

Tina Fey introduced the emotional segment at last night’s event which was played to Franklin’s cover of Amazing Grace.
“To work in TV is a privilege,” Fey said. “We challenge your assumptions. We gently deliver bad news. We feel a responsibility to always tell you the truth.
“It’s understandable to feel that when someone from our favourite show has passed away, we feel like we have lost a friend because we have.”
Other names honoured in the segment included Jerry Van Dyke, Hugh Hefner, John Mahoney, David Cassidy and Burt Reynolds, who died on September 6 at the age of 82.
