Magnum PI has added a MacGyver star to its ranks for an upcoming episode of season four.

The reboot of the original 1980s series stars Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum, a former Navy SEAL turned private investigator solving crimes in Hawaii.

On episode ten of season four, titled 'Dream Lover', Hernandez's PI will team up with a new character that MacGyver fans will probably recognise.

TVLine has reported that Levy Tran, known for playing Desi Nguyen on MacGyver, will appear on Magnum PI as a separate character called Tia Min, the bodyguard of a powerful crime lord.

Tia is loyal to her boss, but she also follows her own agenda, as it will be revealed in due course. On the show, Tia and Magnum will have to work together as his interests will temporarily align with those of Tia's boss.

Other than for her stint in MacGyver, Tran is also known for her roles on Shameless and The Haunting of Hill House. She will next be seen in The Expendables 4, opposite Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.

Together with Hawaii Five-0, Magnum PI and MacGyver exist in the same fictional universe known as Lenkov-verse from the name of the creator of all three shows, Peter M Lenkov. It's not clear why Levy Tran is being recast for Magnum PI.

Having premiered in 2018, the reboot of Magnum PI also stars Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Amy Hill and Tim Kang.

Magnum PI is airing new season 4 episodes on Friday nights on CBS in the US, while in the UK it is available via NOW and airs on Sky Showcase. You can also buy seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
