Macron Gives Update From Isolation After Testing Positive for COVID-19

President of France Emmanuel Macron sought to reassure citizens regarding his health in a video update on December 18, after he tested positive for COVID-19 the day before.

“I wanted to reassure you. I’m fine. I have the same symptoms as yesterday – fatigue, headaches, a dry cough – like hundreds of thousands of you who have had to live with this virus or who are living with it today,” said Macron, speaking from isolation in La Lanterne, the official presidential residence at Versailles.

The president urged people to remain vigilant, noting that he had contracted the virus despite his strict adherence to COVID-19 safety measures. “It is undoubtedly a moment of neglect, a moment of bad luck too,” he said.

Macron pledged to provide regular updates on his condition, and said he was continuing to manage the “day-to-day affairs” of government, though he said he was a “little slowed down because of the virus.” Credit: Emmanuel Macron via Storyful
