Crissi Vassilakis, aka Madam X, is a festival queen.

The 27-year-old DJ made her name on BBC 1Xtra and is now a regular summer festival fixture: she played Lovebox last month and performs at the South West Four festival in Clapham next week before heading to Outlook in Croatia in September. She launched her career in Manchester but now considers London her home. Here’s what she makes of it.

Home is…

Hackney.

Who is your hero?

Skittles, MC of Manchester music collective Levelz.

Meanest tweet you’ve had?

It’s probably something about my DJ skills, or lack of (by the way, I’m really good).

Most romantic thing someone’s done for you?

I got given a rose when I was DJing once. That was pretty cute.

What’s a hidden London gem?

Five Miles in Tottenham. It’s a really sweet, intimate club space. And they’ve got pretty mean board games.

Best thing someone in the street has said to you?

Nice trainers.

Strangest thing a fan has sent you?

I’ve had a fair few nudes creeping in the DMs. Might release them as a zine one day.

What are your fans called?

Madams and Mandems.

A book or podcast you can’t put down?

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. It resonates with my Greek heritage and I love how Louis de Bernières writes.

Outfit you’d like to be buried in?

I’m never going to die, I am immortal!

An alternate career you’ve considered…

Coding or an astronaut.
