Madonna biopic set to be made into TV series instead -but only if fans want it
Madonna is considering ditching her long-awaited movie biopic and turning it into a TV series after resistance from movie moguls who told her it wouldn’t make it to the big screen.
The Vogue singer has put whether it should be seen on television or on the big screen to her fans asking them to pile in with their choices.
A film about the pop star's life was first announced four years ago but is no closer to being made according to Madonna.

The 66-year old took to Instagram this week to share the latest news about bringing her life story to the screen — and suggested she may be ready to pivot.
“After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film… I realised that everything in my life is going to be challenged,” she wrote underneath a carousel of photos featuring her and friends, including designer Willy Chavarria, multimedia artist Jess Cuevas and artist Nadia Lee Cohen.
“The post was set to her 2003 song, Hollywood.
“No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful.. It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life,” the Like a Prayer singer continued.
“I cannot make this in the normal way. Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going. We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!!”
“We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life — the whole universe will conspire you to get it,” she added.
Madonna then threw out a question to her 19.8 million followers:
“Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature Film[?] Think before you answer.”
The responses were split, with many calling for a film, while others were eager to see a longer version of her life story turned into a series.
'If we're not doing lord of the rings style trilogy then I think series would be best!,' one fan wrote.
Another said enthusiastically: 'Series! With each episode presenting different eras. 2 hours future wouldn’t be enough for 4 decades. Maybe a Netflix series. It’s gonna be HUGE!'
'I don’t think one film could begin to sum up the totality of your life and impact,' another post began, adding: 'A series would have more potential for depth, and would be totally binge-worthy!'
Madonna’s longtime friend Debi Mazar, who is a character in the movie, joined in by suggesting her pal write a memoir.
“I think a film or series would be amazing ..but [what] about the book 1st?” she wrote in the comments. “Then no one can get it wrong?”
In 2020, Universal announced it was developing the film with the mother-of-six who has been a trailblazing pop star since shooting to fame in 1983 with hits such as Holiday and Borderline. More 80s hits followed with favourites including Like A Virgin, Papa Don’t Preach, True Blue and Like A Prayer, establishing her as one of the world’s top acts in the decades that followed.
"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement at the time.
Despite Universal being attached with Julia Garner attached to star, Oscar winning co-writer Diablo Cody left the project and the film company also pulled out.
