Madonna has opened up about her "miraculous recovery" following a harrowing hospital stay due to a "life-threatening illness" last year. The 65-year-old music icon was forced into intensive care battling a "serious bacterial infection", which resulted in the postponement of the North American dates for her Celebration Tour.

Despite the setback, she triumphantly launched the tour at The O2 in London in October, before taking her show across the US, Canada, and Mexico. On the anniversary of her health ordeal, Madonna took to social media to share a series of photos from her Fourth of July celebrations, expressing gratitude for her recovery.

The 'Material Girl' singer shared: "Happy 4th of July! A year ago today, I had just come home from the hospital after surviving a life threatening illness, I could barely stand in my backyard holding one sparkler."

She continued to reflect on her journey: "I made a miraculous recovery and had an amazing year." Adding a note of thanks, she wrote: "Thank you God. Life is beautiful! ".

In June 2023, the start of her much-anticipated tour was delayed in Canada as her talent manager Guy Oseary disclosed that Madonna's infection necessitated a prolonged ICU stay.

During her opening performance in London, Madonna confided to the audience: "It was a crazy year for me as well and I didn't think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors."

She recounted her experience, saying: "I forgot five days of my life, or my death, I don't really know where I was. But the angels were protecting me and my children were there, and my children always save me every time."

The show was a grand tribute to her career spanning four decades, showcasing over 40 songs from her extensive repertoire, an array of flamboyant costumes and a range of dramatic stage designs.

She concluded the tour in Brazil in May with a complimentary concert that transformed Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach into a massive dance party for the evening.

This marked her first tour since the Madame X shows, which wrapped up in 2020, although some performances were cancelled due to knee and hip injuries.
