Madonna and Sam Smith tease new single ‘Vulgar’ just in time for Pride

It’s official! Sam Smith and Madonna have announced the release date for their stunning new collaboration ‘Vulgar’, and we won’t have too long to wait.

Taking to social media, the pop legends dropped the news that the new single will be released on June 9 to celebrate Pride month. 

Last week, they posted a gif with their names getting fans all excited, but as the posts had no captions, some feared that they were being teased for a remix.

The announcement on May 31, however, allayed those fears, promising what will surely be the queer pop collaboration of the season!

The 15-second teaser already suggests that the new track will be the perfect dancefloor anthem to get us in the mood for Pride.

It would appear that the new single was also due to get a live preview at Sam’s Manchester show on May 24 when they tweeted, “Manchester, We’ve got a surprise for you this evening. Unholy won’t be the last song…”

However, during the show, Sam experienced a severe vocal cord injury forcing them to suspend the performance after the fourth track.

Taking to social media, they said, “Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end.

“During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.”

They finished the statement by saying, “I am honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all… I love you all. I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry.”

Following a medical examination, Sam was forced to cancel their Birmingham and Glasgow shows but was assured that with full rest, they would be able to perform again.

Although fans fear that Madonna may face backlash from anti-LGBTQ+ fans for collaborating with Sam Smith, who is openly non-binary, ‘Vulgar’ won’t be the first time that Madonna has shown her allegiance to the queer community. Since the start of her career over 40 years ago, the queen of pop has been a vocal ally for the community.

Earlier this year, Madonna introduced Sam and Kim Petras at their performance at the Grammy Awards. She later took to Instagram, saying, “It was an honor for me to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys. I wanted to give the last award which was Album of the year. But I thought it was more important that I present the first trans woman performing at the Grammys.” She also described it as “A history making moment.”

No doubt,  June 9 will also go down in history when we finally get to hear ‘Vulgar’ in full. We can’t wait!
