Madonna tearful amid desperate plea for ‘action’ on gun control

Madonna shared a tearful message as she called for ‘action’ on gun control following the latest mass shooting in the US.

The 63-year-old pop sensation joined a growing list of celebrities that have expressed their heartbreak after an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 elementary children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.

Taking to social media, the songstress penned a heartfelt message as she demanded change and begged lawmakers to make it harder to buy guns.

Madonna also questioned how a ‘child himself’ was able to obtain the rifles and pointed out that the gunman had even shared warnings about his plans on social media.

Alongside her statement, Madonna unveiled a video that featured children singing in a choir before the footage cut to an image of the children that were recently killed at Robb Elementary School.

Madonna then looks directly at the camera with tears rolling down her face before the words ‘wake up’ flash across the screen.

“I cannot imagine the heartache and heartbreak the parents of these 19 Children must feel. I have children in elementary school and if they did not come home from school one day I don’t think I could survive,” Madonna wrote in the caption.

“How is this possible that an 18 year old boy, who is a child himself, can purchase 2 automatic Rifles on his birthday with no background check, no safety training, no questions asked?????”

“The shooter posted countless warnings on IG and facebook announcing his plans to shoot his grandmother and students in a school. No one noticed!! No one stopped him. How is this possible?”

“The NRA refuses to change its position and legislation cannot get one bill passed that requires tougher fire arm safety laws. In spite of the fact that there have been more gun deaths in America than there are days in this year. How is this possible??? We need to Protect Our Children!!”

Madonna then went on to suggest some methods that prevent a school shooting happening again. She suggested mandatory training for gun owners, like those learning to drive a car.

The mum of six concluded by pointing out how “tragic” it was that US citizens needed to beg to end gun violence.

“No more words action only. #guncontrolnow” she added.

Since Tuesday’s horrific shooting - the third deadliest school shooting in the US - a number of prominent figures have expressed their frustration over relaxed gun laws contributing to bloodshed across the country.

Kim Kardashian said that she was “heartbroken, disgusted and furious” about the lack of changes to gun law.
