There was an awkward first meeting for Married at First Sight UK stars Adam Nightingale and Polly Sellman, with their big day not going as planned.
The E4 reality show returned this week for its ninth season, following our latest set of singletons aiming for another shot at love as they are placed in the experiment.
Thursday’s (September 19) episode saw Adam – a 33-year-old barber from Nottingham – and Polly – a 28-year-old careers adviser from Kent – meet at the altar as they began their journey, though it wasn’t smooth sailing.

After a slightly awkward exchange of vows, Adam remarked in the VT that he “wasn’t blown away” by Polly on first impressions, with his lack of excitement being picked up on by both the bride and her best friend, Alfie.
“Adam’s not really holding eye contact with Polly – I haven’t seen him compliment her yet. It’s a bit of a no go yet” said Alfie, who later gave the bride his honest thoughts on her groom, reasoning that Adam had “given nothing.”
Alfie later had a private chat with Adam, admitting to him that he harboured “reservations” about how attracted Adam was to Polly. The groom shared that the bride wasn’t his “usual type”, with Alfie adding in the VT that this partner might “get the chop.”

Alfie then went to Polly for a follow-up chat following the latest discussion, with Polly holding back the tears as Adam’s words were relayed onto her. Adam then shared with his best man, Rich, that he didn’t get the “wow factor” from Polly, with his friend saying their personalities were compatible.
Elsewhere in the episode, newlyweds Sacha and Ross got off to a better start in their ceremony as Sacha – a 29-year-old from Birmingham – explained her reasons for not kissing her groom at the altar, with Ross being understanding of her decision.
