MAFS UK's Emma left "flabbergasted" by Caspar's comments

Married at First Sight UK star Emma Barnes has responded to husband Caspar Todd's on-screen comments about her appearance.

The reality TV star is appearing in the current UK series, having been partnered with groom Caspar by the experts.

So far, viewers have seen the two tie the knot and travel to Jamaica for their honeymoon. It was during the trip that Caspar said that he wasn't feeling "that spark I was hoping to feel" with his bride, having "rarely gone for the curvier person" when previously dating.

Viewers saw Emma defend herself on the show, telling him he needs to work on his "view of women" and appreciate her other qualities.

Appearing on the official MAFS UK 'behind the scenes' podcast this week, Emma reflected on her groom's comments and her response with new host, ex-Love Island star Chloe Burrows.

"I think everyone has self-confidence issues. I’ve never been skinny and I never will be skinny," she said. "Of course, going into this, I’d done a lot of mental preparation and I’d mentally prepared myself for a backlash about 'she’s fat, she’s got a big nose', right?

"And I think I wasn’t quite expecting that to come from my husband.

"I was just a bit shocked that I’d done all of this preparation and didn’t know who was going to be at the end of the aisle. I’m broadening my mindset to make sure I didn’t just judge a book by its cover and I was just flabbergasted that he hadn’t done that."

Emma said that her "mental preparation" prior to the show was based on her own romantic history, which she said had parallels with Caspar's.

"There’s something wrong with the way Caspar and I date, being 31 and 34 never having a girlfriend or boyfriend, that you need to explore why," she said.

Caspar recently shared a montage of photos from the couple's honeymoon episode in a post on Instagram, with the video caption reading: "Well, this was a lot. What goes down must come back up, right?"

Viewers saw the two reconcile at the end of the episode, with both committed to exploring their connection post-honeymoon as the experiment continues.
