Harry Potter enthusiasts of Derbyshire will be able to celebrate a day of 'magical activities' as the largest unofficial Harry Potter fan event in the UK is once again set to take place in Derbyshire - on Sunday, October 6.

The magical event will be taking place in the Peak District town of Wirksworth, welcoming fans of all ages to come and take part in a day full of wizarding activities. Some of the events available include Owlery at Wirksworth station, the chance to meet some snakes and lizards, magical story tellers as well as a charm bracelet workshop and much more.

There will also be some magical transport available including the Wizarding Express Trains from Duffield to Wirksworth and a London Route master bus driving through the town as well. The organisers also have a special surprise they have revealed early on, with the appearance of a Blue Ford Anglia, identical to the car that featured in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Organisers have encouraged visitors to come in full fancy dress, as there will be a costumed character contest, with prizes for a range of different categories including the overall Wizarding Day Cup for best costume.

There will also be a chance to test your broom skills with Quidditch lessons for 7-10 year olds and 11-18 year olds, and even a chance to play a few games of the fantasy sport. It doesn’t end there with the Quidditch, as there will be a tournament where adult teams can compete for the Wirksworth Quidditch Cup, and organisers are urging people to join teams now ahead of the exciting contest.

Furthermore there will be a whole range of different workshops and crafts available such as storytelling, creative writing sessions, a “wizarding emporium of stalls”, wand making bushcraft, music, a trail at the National Stone Centre.

All of this however is not for profit as all proceeds will be raised for good causes, with the Wizarding Day having raised a grand total of £6,000 for Wirksworth Colts football club as well as some other local charities.

This year members of the community are raising funds by stewarding the car park, so organisers have urged people to book in advance to get a free programme and be entered into a AA draw for a “fabulous meal”.
