Magical Milky Way Timelapse Filmed at California State Park

A California-based photographer shot a magical Milky Way timelapse at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park late last month.

The footage, filmed by Shreenivasan Manievannan on October 30, shows the park’s waterfall silhouetted against the backdrop of the Milky Way.

The scene was made even more breathtaking thanks to smoke that had filled the park, which Manievannan said was the result of a prescribed burn.

“As I entered the park I noticed smoke was filled in the park due to a prescribed burn,” he told Storyful.

He said he started shooting a timelapse of the moonset from the valley floor to “capture the waterfall nice and bright” but soon realized he could get a better view by hiking up the rim of the river canyon.

“Then came the magical rays of the moon through the trees and lighting the canyon and the fall leaves,” Manievannan said. “It was mind-blowing to see the effect.”

“As the moon set behind the horizon, the stars started taking hold of the night with the Milky Way becoming bright,” he added. Credit: Shreenivasan Manievannan via Storyful
