The Magpie pub to open in Newcastle with Geordie themed decor as shut down bar transformed
A new Geordie themed haunt, aiming to be popular seven days a week and a big hit on match days, will soon open in the heart of Newcastle, as a recently shut down bar is transformed with a new look and a brilliant new name that locals are going to love.
.There was shock amongst regulars last month, when the doors of The Goose closed suddenly, as an online statement from owners hospitality chain Stonehouse, confirmed its fate, reading: "Unfortunately, this restaurant is now closed as a Stonehouse. Thank you to all our loyal guests for all your previous time spent with us."
Since the closure of The Goose there has been a lot of speculation over what will happen to the large building, which in the pub's later years, was also home to a carvery., Well now, we can announce that the doors of the Percy Street won't be shut for much longer and that's because The Magpie will open there next week, as new owners One Management Services, the same firm who have The Purple Peacock, Bar 52 and 360 in Newcastle, take on the venue with big ambitions.

Speaking to Chronicle Live about what customers can expect, director Fabz Pritchard said: "The Goose was known for being a proper Geordie bar, so we wanted to expand on that by making more of that, in a city which is really big on its culture. There will be a new pub grub menu and competitive drink prices. And while there will be an emphasis on match days, The Magpie will be open seven days a week with different themed nights, like 80s Tuesday and Rock 'n' Roll Wednesdays, with music throughout the day and a live band on the night."
One of the most eye-catching features of the venue's new interior will be a huge mural on the back wall, featuring famous Tyneside faces, places and brands. Celebs featured in the frieze include music icons Sam Fender, Brian Johnson, Sting and Cheryl; TV stars like the Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Byker Grove casts, Robson Green and Vicky Pattison and football legends like Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer Tino Asprilla, Kevin Keegan and Les Ferdinand, alongside current Newcastle United player Bruno Guimaraes.
Outlining his ambitions for what he wants The Magpie to be, Fabz added: "I want it to be a classic Geordie pub; a place where people can come whether they're having a good day or a bad day. I've always had my ethos in pubs and I want it to be a community for everyone to enjoy."
Fabz also revealed that The Magpie is already planning on opening up on Christmas Day to dish up dinners, with Sunday roasts set to become a popular draw for its customers every weekend.
