Major Birmingham Airport police incident as passengers evacuated and people told 'not to come'

A major police incident is ongoing at Birmingham Airport. The whole airport has, this afternoon (October 23) been evacuated as people have been told to stay away while the incident is dealt with.

West Midlands Police officers are turning traffic away from the local airport. The road leading up to the Solihull base has been closed.

The airport itself has urged all passengers to 'not come to the airport' at this time'. Bosses have confirmed that police are on site dealing with an 'incident'.

West Midlands Police has confirmed that it is dealing with a 'suspicious car'. No further details have yet to be provided on this.

As all airport operations have been suspended, this includes flights. Those due to head off this afternoon are still, at the time of publication, being urged not to go to the airport.
