Deaths: Public Health Wales reported 45 more deaths, and there were eight in Northern Ireland. Scotland recorded a six month high of 64 in the last 24 hours. There were 361 deaths recorded in England’s hospitals, which occurred between 13 October and 10 November.

More than 50,000 people in the UK have now died within a month of testing positive for coronavirus. According to each country’s own death toll, 478 new deaths across the UK were recorded in the most recent reporting period, which differs slightly between health authorities. Read more here.

Northern England: There are more patients with coronavirus in hospitals in northern England than in the first wave of the pandemic. In north-west England, 2,948 hospital patients with confirmed COVID-19 were reported on 9 November, 58 more than the spring peak. Read more here.

Vaccines: Jonathan Van-Tam has said Boris Johnson shouldn’t be at the front of the queue if a coronavirus vaccine becomes available. He said people should focus on the “mum test” and on getting high-risk elderly relatives vaccinated first. Read more here.

Older adults in a care home and care home workers and anyone over 80 will be top of the list when the vaccine is rolled out in the UK. The UK has secured 40m doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, 10m of which should be doses being manufactured and made available by the end of the year – if the vaccine is approved by the regulators. University: England and Wales have revealed plans to test students and give them a six day window to return home, early enough to allow them to self-isolate should they test positive for coronavirus and not miss Christmas Day. Students will start to head home on 3 December, the day after England’s lockdown is due to end. Read more here.

Remembrance Day: Britons marked 100 years since the burial of the unknown soldier at Westminster Abbey on an Armistice Day like no other.
