Deaths: A further 674 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK, taking the nation’s total to 26,711. Read more here.

Policy: Boris Johnson said the UK is past the peak of the coronavirus during his first government daily press conference since returning from sick leave. He said he would be issuing guidance on the lockdown next week. Read more here.

Testing: The government has admitted for the first time that it will “probably” miss its target of 100,000 coronavirus tests a day in England by the end of April. Health secretary Matt Hancock set the target at the start of the month as part of a ‘five-pillar’ strategy. Read more here.

NHS: People have been urged not to meet on Westminster Bridge to clap for carers on Thursday evening as crowds gathered and broke social distancing measures on the previous two Thursdays. The Met admitted last week that officers did not observe the 2m distance rule. Read more here.

Science: A drug used to treat Ebola has shown "very encouraging results" at cutting recovery times for coronavirus patients, according to a scientist leading the trials. An international clinical trial, co-led by University College London (UCL) and the UK's Medical Research Council, found the antiviral drug Remdesivir speeds up recovery from coronavirus by almost a third. The UK government’s emergency measures to prop up the economy during the coronavirus crisis will cost £104bn ($130bn) this year alone, according to official estimates. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released fresh analysis on Thursday of the cost of a barrage of UK government measures to relieve the damage caused by the current lockdown. Read more here.

Oasis and Warehouse have collapsed into administration, costing 1,800 jobs. The two brands’ 92 branches and 437 concessions will not reopen, with “certain stock and intellectual property assets” to be sold off. Read more here.

Australia’s remote Northern Territory has become the first area in the country to relax coronavirus lockdown – and locals are being told to celebrate by heading to the pub. To celebrate the return to some form of normality, chief minister Michael Gunner told reporters: "May 15 date night, June 5 Sunday sesh (pub session).” Read more here.

Captain Tom Moore, the fundraiser who has raised more than £31m for NHS charities, has celebrated his 100th birthday with an RAF flypast, a card from the Queen and a message from the prime minister. He was also given the rank of colonel to mark his birthday and his efforts. Read more here.
