A spokesperson for Via said: "We coordinate all roadworks in the county to minimise delays and impact on road users as much as possible. Emergency works are sometimes required outside this control."

The gasworks are set to cause major disruption for around three months, prompting authorities to outline a diversion route. Motorists wishing to travel northbound along Tollerton Lane during thw works will need to take a detour southwest bound on the A606, before taking a left turn on to Cotgrave Road.

After travelling for around one mile on Cotgrave Road, take a left turn onto Cotgrave Lane, which leads back to Tollerton Lane. Drivers in Burnside Grove can head west towards Stanstead Avenue, which joins to the A606.
