Major East Lothian road closed following crash as motorists urged to avoid area

A major road on the outskirts of Edinburgh is currently closed following a road traffic collision.

The incident took place on the A1 near Dolphingstone at around 9am on Sunday morning, June 2, with the northbound carriageway currently closed due to the ongoing incident.

Several vehicles are understood to have been involved in the smash with Traffic Scotland taking to X to alert motorists of the closure and subsequent delays in the area.

They posted: "NEW: 09:02 #A1 incident. #A1 Dolphingstone is CLOSED northbound due to an ongoing road traffic incident. Please use an alternative route and allow extra travel time."

It is currently unclear if any injuries have been reported following the incident, which is the second in as many days on the same stretch of road. On Saturday afternoon a man and woman were rushed to hospital following a single-vehicle crash on the A1 at Newcraighall.

The road was closed for several hours as police confirmed enquiries into the collision are ongoing.
