Major Edinburgh road closed as emergency services rush to 'incident'

Edinburgh drivers have been warned as a major road has closed due to a 'police incident'.

A section of the city bypass has been closed due to an ongoing incident on Wednesday evening. Emergency services have been reported at the scene.

At 7.45pm, Traffic Scotland alerted drivers the A720 westbound at Calder junction which leads onto the slip at the M8 on junction one is closed.

Motorists have been urged to use a different route.

Traffic Scotland said on Twitter: "The A720 (W) Calder Junction on slip to the M8 (W) J1. The slip is CLOSED due to an ongoing police incident. Emergency services are attending the scene.

"Road users are advised to use alternative routes at this time."

They added on their website 'there is no access to the M8 Westbound junction one from the A720 westbound Calder junction slip road.'

Images from the scene show traffic tailing back on the slip road as blue lights can be seen flashing. The fire service, ambulance and police are reported to be at the scene.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
