Major energy firm with six million customers handing out free £150 and it's 'automatic'
A major energy firm with nearly six million customers is handing out a free £150 which is "automatic". The Warm Home Discount Scheme offers electricity customers a one-off payment of £150 who are potentially struggling to pay their energy bills during the cold winter months.
There are three elements to the WHD rebate scheme. Core Group 1 is "eligible customers in receipt of the Pension Credit Guarantee Credit will be identified by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) and should receive their rebate automatically from us," EDF says.
Core Group 2 is "eligible customers in England and Wales no longer need to apply and will automatically be identified by the DWP" and Scotland Broader Group is for "customers in Scotland who are not eligible for Core Group 1 must apply each year".

EDF handles 5.22 million business and residential customer accounts. EDF Energy said: “If you're eligible, we will provide your £150 payment by the end of March 2025. We aim to provide your rebate by 28 February 2025.
“If you have a credit meter, your Warm Home Discount rebate will be credited directly to your account. Once it has been applied, it will show on your next bill. You'll also be able to view this via your online account. If you're a prepayment customer, you'll receive a voucher in the post and instructions on redeeming it. Please note that you can only redeem the voucher at the Post Office.
“If you're a smart Pay As You Go customer, the rebate will be credited directly to your electricity meter. You'll receive confirmation that this has been completed. You'll also be able to view this in your online account.” If you're eligible, we will provide your £150 payment by the end of March 2025.
