Major Glasgow road closed after car ploughs into shop as residents evacuated

A major road in Glasgow has been closed after a car ploughed into a shop.

Emergency services raced to Victoria Road in the Govanhill area of the southside after the alarm was raised at around 5.50pm on Thursday.

Officers received a report of a vehicle having struck a building on the street.

Residents have been evacuated from their homes while crews assess the situation.

A picture sent to the Record showed police and ambulance crews in attendance with an area cordoned off.

No one has been injured as a result of the incident but police remain at the scene and diversions are in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Victoria Road in Glasgow has been closed after a car struck a premises around 5.50pm on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

"Residents have been evacuated from a number of properties as a precaution. There are no reports of any injuries.

"Emergency services are in attendance. Local diversions have been put in place."
