Major plans revealed to transform 'worst-rated' hotel
Britannia has said it will spend millions of pounds to upgrade an under-fire Welsh hotel. The Grand Hotel in Llandudno was once one of the seaside town’s greatest assets but is now among its worst-rated accommodation options on TripAdvisor.
There is concern locally about the hotel looking unloved, while its prime position next to Llandudno Pier has led to worries over its impact on the resort. But now the company has told MS Janet Finch-Saunders plans are well under way for a £3m renovation to the outside of the building while work is ongoing on the 170 bedrooms, NorthWalesLive reports.
In a recent site visit, the team working on the project told Ms Finch-Saunders about their plans to refurbish the bedrooms and begin working on the interior of the hotel from March 2025. Work has also been completed on the ballroom, workers said. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter

Mrs Finch-Saunders said the news was "exciting" for the town. “I would like to thank Britannia Hotels for listening and acting," she said. "It is truly fantastic news that over £5m is being invested in the Grand Hotel.
"I have seen first-hand some of the refurbished bedrooms, the ballroom and restaurant. The team have done a brilliant job and retained the historic character of the property.
“The Grand Hotel is turning a corner, and I am proud to be the first to stand up and congratulate all involved in the massive investment being made on what is an exciting journey for the establishment, our town and region. I’m looking forward to seeing the refurbished balconies and hosting an event at the hotel in due course."
