The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed why a main road between Nuneaton and Bedworth was closed. Passers-by spotted that part of Coventry Road, close to the Griff roundabout, was closed last night (November 17).

They also reported seeing police cars in the area including on the car park of the nearby Griff restaurant. An IOPC spokesperson has confirmed to CoventryLive that a reconstruction was taking place.

It follows the death of Nicholas Friswell. He was crossing the road when he was hit by a police car which was responding to an emergency in Nuneaton on the evening of September 13.

A spokesperson for the IOPC explained: "We can confirm a reconstruction involving Warwickshire Police was held on the B4113 Coventry Road near the Griff roundabout yesterday (Sunday) evening as part of evidence gathering for the IOPC’s investigation into the circumstances of a fatal collision in which Nicholas Friswell died.

"Mr Friswell was confirmed dead at the scene after he was in collision with a police vehicle between the junction of Gipsy Lane and the Griff roundabout, on 13 September this year." The spokesperson added that the reconstruction was the latest part of the investigation.

"The IOPC investigation is ongoing and on its completion our final report will be provided to the coroner to assist the inquest into Mr Friswell’s death, and shared with the force and Mr Friswell’s family," the spokesperson added.
