'Major rescue unit' dispatched as patient gets ankle trapped on boat
Firefighters have released a casualty who got their ankle trapped in a canal boat's 'hydraulic mechanism'. Crews from three stations along with paramedics were scrambled to the scene in Sandbach this morning.
Now the patient is in hospital after being freed from the machinery. The alarm was raised at the waterway in Malkins Bank at 9.35am with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sending engines from Crewe, Alsager and Winsford - along with the 'major rescue unit'.
A spokesperson said: "Firefighters worked to release a casualty whose ankle was trapped in the hydraulic mechanism of a canal boat. The crews formulated a plan to release the casualty, utilising a water safety pack as they were close to the water's edge. Once released, the casualty was handed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to hospital."
