Major road flooded after River Alt appears to burst its banks
Valley Road in Kirkby has been submerged by water this afternoon after the River Alt appears to burst its banks. Multiple roads across Merseyside have been closed this afternoon (Wednesday, October 16) due to flooding.
It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain covering the whole region. The warning has been in place since 6pm on Tuesday and will remain until 9pm tonight. The Met Office said spells of heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and flooding in places.
Merseyside Police's road policing unit has also said there are several reports of several flooded roads across the area due to heavy rain. A spokesperson said: "Despite police on scene and road closed signs, motorists are choosing to ignore this and trying to make their way through flooded roads. Several now reported for careless driving."

Following the heavy rainfall, the River Alt next to Kirkby Valley Golf Club has burst its banks. Police have blocked off the road and drivers are not able to travel down.
Images of the river show Valley Road completely submerged with water. It has been reported that Valley Road Eastbound from B5194 Aintree Lane to M57 J6 in Kirkby has been closed due to flooding.
