A major search operation was launched after two dogs fell from a cliff on Anglesey. HM Coastguard and a lifeboat crew were called to Porth Wen on Wednesday evening before launching an "extensive search" for the animals.

One was found and rescued, but tragically the second dog could not be located. A Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue team spokesperson said they were sent to the scene at 8pm after "reports of two dogs falling over cliff near the Porth Wen area".

They said: "RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat was requested to the scene and after and extensive search of the cliff face and caves one dog was found and rescued. Search continued looking for the second dog, until early hours of the next day

"Unfortunately could not be found. Owners reunited with one dog, but we give thoughts to second dog. Great multi agency work as always."
