Major Tim Peake and Eddie Redmayne honoured by the Queen

Astronaut Tim Peake and Hollywood actor Eddie Redmayne have been honoured by the Queen at Windsor Castle.

Major Tim, 44, was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George, for services to space research and scientific education

Redmayne, who won the best actor Oscar for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, received an OBE for services to drama.

In January, Major Tim became the first Briton to walk in space during his six-month stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The astronaut, who also became the first person to be named in the Queen's Birthday Honours while in orbit, has dedicated his award to the people who made his mission possible.

Major Tim carried out more than 100 scientific experiments while on the ISS, before returning to Earth on 18 June .

Redmayne is currently starring in the Harry Potter-inspired film Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

He was educated at Eton College - not far from Friday's investiture - where he studied in the same year as the Duke of Cambridge.
