Making a Murderer subject Brendan Dassey has had his appeal rejected by US Supreme Court.

It was reported last year that a court was set to reconsider the decision to overturn his conviction, months after a federal court upheld a prior decision to throw out Dassey's guilty verdict and ordered that he should be freed from prison imminently.

Dassey is currently serving his 12th year of a life sentence, after he confessed to helping his uncle Steven Avery murder Teresa Halbach on Halloween night in 2005. The appeal came about because it was disputed whether Dassey was coerced into making the confession.

A three-judge panel wrote at the time: "To be sure, Dassey's confession was not a smooth and consistent story. There were holes in the narrative. Dassey waffled and backtracked.

"The sequence of events was not always clear. The majority, reviewing the interview with its defence-friendly 'key' in hands, takes these inconsistencies as proof that Dassey was not recounting real memories but only telling the investigators what he believed they wanted to hear."

The attempts at making an appeal will be covered in the second season of Netflix's Making a Murderer, which will follow Dassey, Avery and their investigative and legal teams.

"There is a ton of info that wasn't explored just in the confines of the episodes we've already done," Netflix's Ted Sarandos previously said.

Making a Murderer season one is available now on Netflix.
