Netflix phenomenon Making a Murderer is set to get a follow-up series that will explore a different side to the Stephen Avery case.

The first series focused on the murder of Teresa Halbach and tried to uncover whether Steven Avery, who had been convicted for the crime, was really guilty.

The follow-up series Convicting a Murderer will look at district attorney Ken Kratz and other police officers on the ‘law enforcement side of the story’.

In a statement, creator Shawn Rech said that it will ‘take a broader perspective’ on the case.

“When Making a Murderer was produced, many on the law enforcement side of the story could not, or would not, participate in the series, which resulted in a one-sided analysis of the case.

“This docu-series will examine the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective.

“It will also share with viewers the traumatic effects of being found guilty and vilified in the court of public opinion.”

Making a Murderer received criticism when it aired back in 2015 for being ‘one-sided’ and ‘biased’ towards Avery.

Rech hit back against the accusations, saying he and his team “fight for the truth”.

“We fight for the truth. We’ll present all of the evidence in the Avery case from the perspective of both the prosecution and the defense and see if viewers feel the same way they did two years ago following the first season of Making A Murderer.”

Convicting a Murderer will arrive on Netflix later this year.
