Maldon car park blocked by 'unauthorised encampment' as formal notice to leave issued

An Essex car park is currently blocked and Essex Police alerted due to "an unauthorised encampment". There has been a temporary reduction in the number of spaces available at the Butt Lane Car Park in Maldon.

Around 20 car parking spaces are currently filled, including the free 30-minute spaces. Maldon Council said they understand the situation may cause inconvenience and that they share the concerns of locals.

Additional parking is still available at our other Town Centre Car Parks, including High Street East, which has 30 minute free bays. Essex Countywide Traveller Unit Officers have visited the site today and issued a formal notice to leave.

The group will also provide an assessment to Essex Police to enable them to consider any further action, Maldon Council said. A statement from Maldon District Council says: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment currently in Butt Lane Car Park.

"We understand that the temporary loss of around 20 parking spaces, including the free 30-minute parking spaces, may cause inconvenience, and we share your concerns. Additional parking is still available at our other Town Centre Car Parks, including High Street East, which has 30 minute free bays.

"Please be assured that we are working with our partners including Essex Police - Maldon District and the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit to resolve the situation swiftly and respectfully. We are committed to ensuring that the car park is fully accessible to our residents and visitors as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and thank residents for their cooperation."
