Man, 22, has nan to thank for his business which is 'snowballing'
A Wirral man keeps a family tradition alive from the comfort of his own home. Lucas Eaton, from Spital, is the brains behind the namesake Eaton Patisserie.
The 22-year-old one-man team does everything from his kitchen. However, with this comes a price, one his mum, Victoria, in particular, has to pay, as Lucas joked he has “out-of-bounds” cooking hours for his business.
The pastry chef specialises in celebration cakes—anything for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and baby showers. He said in the last year, the bakery business has reached new heights, and he only has one group of people to thank for it.

The former Wirral Met College student told the ECHO: “Our kitchen is fully separated - I have a full area, and my poor mum has a little corner. I do my own work after finishing another full-time job in Wales, so it's constant for me, really.
“I’ll come home and just get straight to working on my own business. I get around twenty orders a week. It doesn’t sound a lot but it is when you're working two jobs. I need to make sure I don’t burn myself out.
“Customers keep coming back for a few items - my loaded brownies and cookies. I have loyal customers who I see regularly. Quite a few have said they wouldn’t go to anyone else but me. In the last year, the business has really snowballed, and it's thanks to word of mouth from these customers.”
Lucas began baking when he was a child. Eager to get involved, his nan, Joan, taught him everything he knows today. But, after she died, he had to learn to perfect his craft himself.
He said: “When I was 10, my nan Joan used to bake with me. I wanted to know everything, and she taught me it all. When she passed away, I carried it on to make her proud. She loved to bake with my mum, Victoria, so it’s a family thing for us.
“I still use her recipes today. She showed me how to make bread and brownies, and since then, I’ve taught myself how to improve some of the recipes. She died before she ever saw my business, but my mum has told me how proud my nan would be of me for doing what I’m doing.”
For now, Lucas’s attention is focused on his upcoming Valentine's Day range. After this, he hopes his brand will become recognisable to those further afield from Merseyside, as he is set to launch a website and nationwide delivery in Spring.
