Man, 34, tragically found dead after battling mental health difficulties and drug addiction
A Teesside man tragically took his own life after battling mental health difficulties and drug addiction.
Jonathon Lee Watson, who was known as Jonny, was found dead in Grangetown on March 22. A hearing at Middlesbrough Town Hall heard how he had sought help from medical professionals before his tragic death.
An inquest was held on Tuesday to determine the circumstances surrounding the 34-year-old’s death on Birchington Avenue. A post mortem report, conducted by Dr Sowmya Venkatesan, ruled Mr Watson’s cause of death as ’pressure on the neck due to hanging’.
Coroner Karin Welsh accepted the cause of death as it is “in accordance with the circumstances he was found”. The inquest heard that Mr Watson, who lived on Fabian Court, Eston, had “mental health difficulties” and attended Roseberry Park Hospital, in Middlesbrough “in recent times”.
However, it was added that his mental health struggles were “exacerbated by his long-standing drug use”. The assistant coroner for Teesside and Hartlepool told the hearing that Mr Fowler, who was born in Middlesbrough, had expressed his love for his family before his tragic death.
Coroner Welsh recorded a conclusion of suicide.
